Laid in is a brochure announcing an Exhibition of Maxwell Anderson manuscripts at the Princeton University Library, on loan from Mrs. Maxwell Anderson. Small bookplate of Vedder Morris Gilbert (Professor, University of Montana) affixed to front pastedown. From the jacket blurb, "Key Largo is the story of King McCloud, an American who takes part in the Spanish Civil War, loses his faith along with his illusions, and struggles back to a faith in the end." In blank verse. When the play opened on Broadway in 1939, it starred Paul Muni as King McCloud, and Jose Ferrer, Uta Hagen and Karl Mauldin. The 1948 John Huston movie starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall was loosely adapted from this play. A NEAR FINE copy in a Very Good or Better (Some soiling, edgewear, chipped spine ends) dust jacket, now collected and protected in a clear mylar protective sleeve.
