Terry stabbed a man to death during the reign of the San Francisco Vigilence Committee, killed David C. Broderick in a duel and finally was shot to death when he assaulted United States Supreme Court Justice Stephen Field in a railroad station restaurant in Lathrop, California. Prior owners signature in ink (San Francisco attorney M. G. Loefler, dated October 31, 1892) on a front free endpaper. Covers rubbed, some edgewear and age-toning of pages as usual: ffrontis portrait and title page almost separated, but Very Good or better, now in a custom clear mylar jacket.
