Hays (1879-1954) had been President Warren Harding's campaign manager and Chairman of the Republican Ntional Committee. He was appointed Postmaster General in the Harding Administration and was a person of interest in the Teapot Dome Scandal. He resigned as Postmaster to become the President of the Motion Picture Producers and Distributors of America, serving from 1922 to 1945. He was the principal author and enforcer ot the Motion Picture Code (aka The Hays Code), passed in 1929 and strictly enforced starting in 1934. This was a censorship code, setting out harsh rules purporting to govern morality in films. This book is a brief, interesting story of the advent of sound in motion pictures, and is a nice reference for movie history buffs. A Near Fine copy, now in a custom clear mylar protective jacket.
