ORIGINAL INDENTURE DEED 1871

Grass Valley, California: 1871. First Edition. An ORIGINAL indenture deed transferring a quartz gold claim Delano owned in Grass Valley Township, Nevada County, California to the New York Gold Hill Mining Company, for consideration of 10,000 shares of stock in the latter company. A certified copy, with notarial notice affixed. It does not appear to contain Delano's signature. Transferred is "all of that certain mining ground, and quartz mining claims, situate lying and being in Grass Valley township...and being situate upon New York Hill about two miles southerly from the town of Grass Valley..." Alonzo Delano was a noted and published Gold Rush humorist and artist who became a banker in Grass Valley. He was held in such esteem that local flags were lowered to half-mast when he died. He is buried in Grass Valley. FINE condition. Near Fine. Item #1130
