This is Author Perry Newberry's copy SIGNED/INSCRIBED to himself in ink on a front free endpaper: "Compliments of the Author to his very good friend, Perry Newberry". also in the Author's hand, in ink, is a caricature of himself, including his signature flowing tie. Illustrated by Henry Pitz, including 5 plates (frontispiece in color) and numerous in-text drawings. Green cloth, gilt titling and a color illustration affixed to front cover. 6 3/4" x 8 3/4". The adventures of two boys searching for gold in Lassen and Plumas counties, California. Author Newberry (1870-1938) was a beloved resident of Carmel, California from 1910 until his death in 1938. He was elected Mayor of Carmel, urging "Don't Vote For Perry Newberry" if one favored development and commercialization of the village. He was a writer, actor, home designer and Editor and Co-publisher of the Carmel Pine Cone newspaper. A two-page biographical sketch of Perry Newberry by Connie Wright is laid in.
