San Francisco: A. M. Robertson, 1911. First Edition. Illustrated Cloth. (2)140 (2) pages. First Edition. SIGNED/INSCRIBED twice in ink by George Sterling to artist Francis (Frank) McComas. The first inscription is on a front free endpaper: "Dear Frank: I am proud to sign myself your friend / George Sterling / Carmel, Cal., Nov. 12th, 1912." The second inscription is on the half title: "For Frank McComas from George Sterling." Blue cloth with silver cover decoration by Porter Garnett ("P" "G" appear at the lower corners). There is also a penned correction by Sterling at page 137. 5 1/4" x 7 7/8". A book of poems by California poet and playwright George Sterling (1869 - 1926). Sterling and McComas were members of the "bohemian" colony of early Carmel, California. Francis McComas (1875-1938) was an Australian who studied art in San Francisco and Paris. He moved to Carmel in 1912, the year of Sterling's inscription. Specializing in watercolors, McComas was one of only three California painters who exhibited at the important New York Armory Show of 1913. McComas died at his home in Pebble Beach, California in 1938. Sterling, a good friend of Jack London, committed suicide while residing at the Boheniam Club in San Francisco in 1926.
