TRAIL DUST AND SADDLE LEATHER

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1946. First Edition. Original cloth. (vii) 2, 246 pages. First edition (With the Scribner's "A" on the copyright page). Illustrated from drawings by author Jo Mora. 7 1/4" x 9 1/2". Decorated cloth. Illustrated dustjacket. Illustrated endpapers. Small bookseller's label (Tecolote Bookshop, Santa Barbara) on rear pastedown. Jo Mora was a famed artist, writer and scupltor who lived and worked for many years on the Monterey Peninsula in California. Born in Uruguay in 1876, he came as a child to the United States. After education and art studies in the East, he came West and became steeped in Native American and Cowboy culture. From the jacket: "Jo Mora 'got his first spill 57 years ago' when he was ten--and he's still in the saddle. He has worked with and observed Cowboys and Vaqueros from Canada to Tierra Caliente for half a century. There's nothing he doesn't know about cowboys and cattle-punching. He has illustrated his text with many lively and explanatory drawings." Some trivial edgewear at the spine-ends, but a Near Fine copy in a price-clipped, Very Good Plus dust jacket (Edgewear, especially at the spine-ends. Note: While almost all jackets of this title have the spine sunned from red to yellow, this jacket has retained a good deal of the red); now in a clear mylar protective sleeve.
