San Francisco: Thomas W. Norris, 1940. First Edition. Illustrated Wrappers. This is a facsimile folder printed by The Grabhorn Press, San Francisco, for the well-known bibliophile Thomas W. Norris, to be sent by him to his friends for Christmas, 1940. Illustrated wrappers, tied with ribbons. 7 1/2" x 10". Mr. Norris explains in a note at the rear of the piece, that it is a facsimilie of a poem, entitled "The Volunteer's Vision", composed by Lt. R. M. Morrison of Col. Jonathan Stevenson's Regiment, while the Regiment was becalmed at sea on its way from New York to California in 1847. Norris further explains that, "The manuscript was carefully kept by J. H. Adams, a fellow soldier, from 1847 to 1863 when he added the cover and presentation page and with no doubt a great deal of ceremony and a few drinks from the 'flaming bowl' presented it to Barry & Patton, San Francisco's colorful saloon-keepers, authors of "Men & Memories in the Spring of the 50's." A Very Good Plus copy (Rubbed from handling and missing one of three ribbon ties) and now in a clear mylar protective envelope. Very Good Plus / 4-mil clear mylar envelope. Item #2108
