Pictorial cloth. 142 pp. SIGNED/INSCRIBED by George Sterling in ink on a front free endpaper: "For Frederick W; Skiff, with best regards but with the advice not to read these solemn verses of a solemn young man! George Sterling. San Francisco, April 29th, 1918." Bookplate of Frederick W. Skiff affixed to front pastedown. Blue pictorial cloth with silver titling and art by "H.SCH"; i.e.,Herman Scheffauer. 5 1/2" x 7 3/4". Small bookseller's stamp at rear pastedown (Paul Elder & Co., San Francisco). Frederick W. Skiff (1867-1947) was an author, bibliophile, Americana expert and founder of the Acorn Club. He accumulated one of the most important private libraries in the United States. This was Sterling's first book. Poet/Playwright George Sterling (1869-1926) was a resident member of early Carmel's bohemian group and a friend of Jack London, Mary Austin and Robinson Jeffers.
