First, in ink on a front free endpaper: "Dear Leo: Ambrose Bierce and Jack London claimed they understood "The Testimony of the Suns". Do take a hack at it yourself! Your Friend, George. / "Spread ye their (?) on the dark: Behold! they leap again to light!" Second, on the half-title: "For Leo Rabbette from George Sterling May 18th, 1921." Two corrections in ink at page 85 in Sterling's own hand. Front cover and spine titling. This was Sterling's first book. Poet/Playwright George Sterling (1869-1926) was a resident member of early Carmel's bohemian group also a friend of Jack London, as well as Mary Austin and Robinson Jeffers. His later years were spent in San Francisco, where he died by his own hand in 1926. Mattila A1a. BAL 18744.
