Cloth-backed Boards. 148 pp. A presentation copy, SIGNED/INSCRIBED in ink by Author Conrad, with an original ink drawing of "'Viejo Torilero"' by BC" with added text: "For Doris" with a stylized signature by "B Conrad" as an artist palette. On the title pages is a INSCRIPTION by a retired matador, Victoriano Valencia: "To Doris, with my best remembrance. Your friend Victoriano Valencia 23/7/70." Also laid in are three photocopies of pages from the internet dealing in part with Senor Valencia. Profusely illustrated, primarily from photographs of Manolete. Sans DJ. Cloth-backed boards. 7 1/4" x 10 1/4". List of Manolete's performances. From the Author's Note: "This book is an attempt to recreate faithfully with words and photographs the day Manolete was killed." Author Conrad was an artist, bullfighter, restaurateur and author of 27 fiction and non-fiction books. He was once secretary to Sinclair Lewis. El Matador, Conrad's elegant saloon on Broadway in San Franisco's North Beach, was a very popular meeting place in the 1950's for locals and visiting celebrities.
