A history of the Monterey Peninsula, with a separate chapter on bandit Joaquin Murietta, and a description of the present (1927) area. The book was underwritten by Tirey L. Ford's son-in-Law, Samuel F. B. Morse, the developer of Pebble Beach and the Del Monte area, to encourage interest in the area. Although the book is often collected now principally for the illustrations of Jo Mora, the author, Tirey L. Ford, is an important Californian as well. He was Attorney-General of California (1898-1902), and a successful San Francisco attorney. He was an acquitted defendant in the San Francisco graft trials following the 1906 earthquake and fire, and was on the California State Board of Prison Directors. He was the father-in-law of Samuel F. B. Morse, the developer of Pebble Beach, who underwrote the production of this book. A Fine copy, now in a custom clear mylar protective jacket.
