Laid in is a CERTIFICATE OF PROVENANCE dated and signed by Burgess Meredith's son, Jonathan Meredith, certifying that this book came from his father's collection, and noting that his father "...kept much of his wine collection in the cellar of "21", where my sister and I visited as children."
SIGNED/INSCRIBED in ink warmly to Burgess Meredith and his wife Kaja Meredith by the owners and staff of "21". Among the signers are H. Peter "Pete" Kriendler, H. Jerome "Jerry" Berns, Sheldon Tannen, Sommelier Mario Ricci and Florence (Mrs. Robert) Kriendler, as well as various members of the staff. (Please see the photographs for the personal comments of the signers). Some of the signers refer to Burgess Meredith as "Buzz" or "The Buzzer". "Buzz" was Burgess Meredith's nickname to good friends. Profusely illustrated, primarily from period photographs. Black cloth; silver titling. 8" x 10". An intimate portrait of the "21" Club in New York City, since its opening as a speakeasy to 1975. ("21" closed in 2020 during the pandemic, but still maintains a website). Recipes from "21" start at page 177, referred to in the inscription by Terrance "Terry" Dinan, one of the two individuals credited in the text for writing and testing the recipes. A rare and unique association copy. A Near Fine copy (slight edgewear at the spine ends) in a Very Good Plus dust jacket (edgewear; sunned spine), now in a clear mylar protective sleeve.
