From a prefatory note: "Since the first publication of these versions I have made many changes in them, in the interest of a truer rendering and a better art, while some of the sonnets have been almost entirely recast." Edward Robeson Taylor (1838-1923) was an important San Franciscan. He was a physician, lawyer, poet and one-time Mayor of San Francisco. In retirement, he was named Dean of Hastings College of Law.
