1960/ ORIGINAL TELETYPE SIGNED / WESTBROOK PEGLER ALS TO DAVE CHASEN / JFK

Los Angeles: Pegler/King Features Syndicate, 1960. First Edition. These are three (3) pages of ORIGINAL teletyped pages by WESTBROOK PEGLER of his King Features Syndicate column of July 12, 1960 concerning a political gathering that night at Chasen's restaurant in Hollywood, California, ostensibly hosted by singer Phil Regan, honoring David McDonald, the President of the United Steelworkers national union. This party took place during the Democratic National Convention, held in Los Angeles from July 11-16, 1960. Significantly, also present at the gathering was SENATOR JACK F. KENNEDY (JFK), the eventual successful Democratic Presidental Nominee. This original teletyped column was then sent by Westbrook Pegler to Dave Chasen, the owner of Chasen's restaurant with a HANDWRITTEN NOTE, SIGNED by Pegler ("Peg"} to "Dear Dave" which encircles the first page of copy. Present are three pages of the four page teletyped column, sans page three. 8 1/2" x 11". ALSO INCLUDED are photocopies of the relevant pages of The Pampa (Texas) Daily News of July 13, 1960, showing the subject Pegler column starting on the front page and labled, "Special Daily News Convention Reports". As of 1960, Westbrook Pegler (1894-1969) was a popular, though controversial, columnist, whose columns were distributed nationally by King Features Syndicate, owned by Hearst. The Very Good Plus pages have teletype machine-torn edges as usual and are rubbed from handling, and now in a clear 4mil mylar protective envelope. Very Good Plus / 4-mil clear mylar envelope.
