San Francisco: Palace of the Legion of Honor, 2000. First Edition. This is an ORIGINAL poster for "THIEBAUD / A PAINTING RETROSPECTIVE", an art exhibit at San Francisco's Palace of the Legion of Honor, June10 - September 4, 2000. The image is "Eight Lipsticks" (1964; pastel on paper). Hatcher Press, San Carlos, California. Card stock. 22" x 32". Wayne Thiebaud (1920-2021) was a very successful painter, known for his commonplace objects (especially food), landscapes and human figures. He taught art at the University of California at Davis from 1960-1991, and was a Professor Emeritus thereafter until his death. He died at his home in Sacramento on Christmas Day, 2021 at age 101. The Palace of the Legion of Honor was a gift to San Francisco from Alma de Brettville Spreckels and her husband. Mrs. Spreckels was rumored to have posed for the figure on top of the Dewey Monument in Union Square.
