Berkeley: Serendipity Books, 1973. First Edition. This is an ORIGINAL broadside featuring two poems by Gary Snyder, captioned "Two Logging Songs". SIGNED in ink by Gary Snyder. A facsimile of Gary Snyder's signature is also embossed as part of the original piece. Published by Serendipity Books for the International Book Fair, 1973. Printed by the Arif Press, Berkeley. 7 1/2" x 13". The two poems are "Clear-Cut" and "Virgin". Gary Snyder (born 1930) is best known as a poet, associated with the San Francisco Renaissance, but he is much more than that. He is an essayist and an environmental activist. He won the Pulitzer Prize for poetry. He taught at the University of California, Davis, and is presently a resident of Nevada County and a good neighbor. Serendipity Books was a legendary bookstore at 1201 University Avenue in Berkeley, owned and operated by respected bookman, Peter Howard. It closed in 2013.
