STARR KING IN CALIFORNIA

San Francisco: Paul Elder and Company, 1917. Cloth Backed Boards First Edition. Small Octavo. (x), 105 (2) pages. Tipped -in frontis (Thomas Starr King Monument in Golden Gate Park) and tipped-in portrait of King. Navy blue cloth-backed gray boards, with gilt trim and spine lettering. Some trivial spine-end wear and an inscription ("Gerald from Dad/May 1923") at the FFE, else NEAR FINE. a bright copy. The dustjacket is somewhat soiled and slightly chipped at the spine-ends, but at least VERY GOOD and collected and protected in a Brodart sleeve. King's anti-slavery advocacy is largely credited as instrumental in Lincoln's narrow victory in California and keeping the state loyal to the Union in the Civil War. A very nice copy.
